Q. Why does my personal branding and corporate image matter?A. Because – only you have the message – make it heard! Appearance is a powerful means of non-verbal communication (NVC). In a matter of seconds, people make subconscious judgements about us based on our dress and demeanour, such as eye contact, body language, handshake, tone of voice and accent. In the 1970’s Professor Emeritus of Psychology at UCLA – professor Albert Merhabian, researched extensively with his students on the subject of NVC and his research showed some startling results. 55% of the way you are judged is on first impression, and that is solely to do with your appearance. The next 38% is based on voice. All this makes up an extraordinary 93% of those vital first impressions leaving just 7% for your message, which, if it is poorly communicated, will never hit its target. These figures have been re-visited in the 21st century and now may be even more extreme. There is enormous potential for a mismatch of perception and projection of the image portrayed by corporate staff. That image is an asset to be managed and invested in. Companies frequently spend huge amounts on advertising and refining the company profile while forgetting their largest single investment – their people. So think…… What is your largest single investment? - Your people. What is your largest single asset? - Your people. Who carrys out your executive plans? - Your people. Who meets your customers? - Your people.
